Maldives Police Service, on Monday, revealed that the body of Mohamed Sidhrathulla, which was recovered from the lagoon of capital Male' City, was sent to neighbouring India for post-mortem examinations.
Although his family has raised objections against the autopsy and wrote to the institution to hand the body over, authorities stated that the investigation will continue under the rights granted to the agency by the Criminal Procedure Code.
The body of the 31-year-old Maldivian male was reported to the authorities at around 1040 hrs on October 23, after he was found by a group of divers off the western coast of Male'.
Experts initially noted the cause of his death as inconclusive but media reports claim that his body was discovered with various injuries.
Sidhrathulla was last seen alive on surveillance footages recorded between 09:00 and 12:00 hours on October 23. The video showed Sidhrahtullah walking towards the western coastline.
