The government is giving a six month period for all vehicles being driven in Male' on out-of-zone registrations to re-register to the Male' zone by taking the vehicles to a land plot assigned by HDC.
A 40,000-square-foot plot of land allocated for vehicles registered in other zones besides Male' to park temporarily in Hulhumale' has seen little use, with only a few vehicles currently parked in the area.
The area, located in front of MPL flats in Hulhumale' Phase 2, was designated for unregistered vehicles parked on Male' roads and those registered in zones other than Zone A.
Since the land was handed over to the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) on August 21, only 15 cars have been parked there.
Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Ameen earlier announced a 40-day period for vehicle owners to move their vehicles to the designated plot. After this period, vehicles parked unlawfully in Male' will be towed to the area.

The issue of vehicles registered in other zones being driven in the Male' area came to light after a speeding racing car hit a man in Hulhumale' Phase 2 last month, leaving the victim badly injured and vehicles as well as surrounding trees severely damaged.
Photos from the scene of the accident showed that the car involved in the accident was not registered to be driven in Male', as it had a B zone plate. Vehicles registered to the B-zone can only be driven in islands north and south islands in Maldives while a vehicle registered in Male' should have an A-zone number plate.
