1,500 tonnes of drinking water received from China

China has extended 1,500 tonnes of drinking water as aid to Maldives. Foreign Minister states that this water will be dispersed across islands in the nation, prioritizing islands facing water scarcity.

The 1,500 tonnes of drinking water donated to Maldives by China has been brought into the country.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed today that the decision to present Maldives with drinking water was reached amid the official visit of Chinese Xizang Autonomous Region's Chairman, Yan Jinhai to Maldives where he paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu last November.

At the time, it was deliberated to donate water that is produced out of frozen water procured from glacial regions which is highly clean, clear and rich in minerals. Moreover, Xizang's Autonomous Region is known to produce high-cost premium brands of water.

Foreign Ministry further ascertained that the gifted water shipment has arrived into the country.

The Ministry declared that the State has determined to distribute the water as aid to various islands in the event of drinking water shortage.
