President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been appointed as the leader of the Progressive Party of Maldives/ People's National Congress (PPM/PNC) coalition.
After PPM leader and former President Abdulla Yameen exited the party, the coalition's leadership role fell into a vacuum.
President Muizzu was appointed to lead the coalition at the senate meeting of PPM and PNC, where all participating members unanimously agreed to the decision.
At the ceremony held on Wednesday evening, December 6, to open the new party office of PNC, President Muizzu expressed his confidence that the ruling coalition would secure a super-majority in the upcoming parliamentary election.
Meanwhile, former President Yameen, after exiting PPM, had founded his own political party; People's National Front (PNF).
