Select officers from Maldives Police Service are departing to India to participate in training courses, as per the pledge of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The first batch consisting of 20 officers are already receiving training on fingerprint DNA at the Gujurat Forensic Sciences University, a 10-day programme scheduled to conclude this Friday.
The 20-officer second batch is set to begin their training on crime scene management next Monday. The officers met the Indian Ambassador to Maldives Sunjay Sudhir on Wednesday.
India will also provide training sessions on computer forensics and cyber security, and forensic chemistry to more officers in the future.
Indian PM Modi vowed to provide training for 100 Maldivian police officers, during his state visit to the island nation last year.
