Two arrested for extortion in Male'

Two Maldivian men have been arrested for forcing an individual into a Male' home, stripping him, and extorting money from him.

Police said today that the incident had occurred on last Wednesday. Through stripping and threatening the individual, the suspects forced him to give up the PIN for his cash card, and stole the money in his account.

In relation to this, two men, aged 26 and 35, have been arrested, Police said.

Police Media Official stated that when presented at court for their remand hearing, both had been placed in remand in custody; one for a period of 30 days and the other for 60 days.

In recent days, cases of extortion and kidnapping have been on the rise.
