Sports car accident case forwarded to Prosecutor General's Office

Police have completed investigations into the accident in Hulhumale' Phase 2 in July involving a sports car, and forwarded the case to the Prosecutor General's Office to press charges.

Police have completed investigations into the accident in Hulhumale' Phase 2 involving a sports car, and forwarded the case to the Prosecutor General's Office to press charges.

Police said that the accident on July 31 occurred near the Vinares Flats in Hulhumale' when a speeding sports car veered out of control and collided with a man on a parked motorcycle at the side of the road.

In relation to the case, the driver of the car and two passengers were arrested.

Police said that the PG Office has accepted the cases against these three individuals.

After the accident, the three had fled the scene. However, all three were located and placed under arrest that night. Ibrahim Ikram, the driver of the car, was placed in remand in custody until the end of trial, but High Court later ordered his release.

High Court's order cited that Ikram had not been given the opportunity to have legal representation during his remand hearing.

The Police rearrested Ikram the day after his release, and he was placed in custody for three days, after which the Court again placed him in remand in custody for a period of 30 days.

The other two arrested in the case are Ikramurrahman and Jinah Ismail. They also remain in remand in custody.

The sports car involved in the accident had also not been registered to be driven in the Male' area.
