State-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has revealed that it was recording over 300 cases of flu daily.
IGMH spokesperson revealed that viral fever and flu patients remain constant without an increase or decrease in consultations. This was the first statement made by the state hospital dring the ongoing flu epidemic.
Privately run ADK hospital’s statistics publicised last week show that the number of patients seeking consultations for viral fever rose above 100 from May 17, with a record number of 200 patients on the 21st.
ADK Hospital has also opened a special flu clinic to cater to patients suffering from fever and flu. The clinic is open from 2:00 p.m. until midnight everyday.
Meanwhile, a patient with influenza had passed away in ADK last week. The Maldives had recorded over 200 cases of influenza last year as well, with six individuals dying from the disease.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) recently urged caution amidst the flare-up, and advised the public to avoid hospitals and healthcare centres unless strictly necessary.
