Education Minister inaugurates 'Cool School': an initiative to install ACs in all public schools

The project to install ACs in all school of Maldives has been inaugurated today by the Education Minister. He stated that this project will not only provide a cooler environment for studies but will also assist in addressing concerns of bad behaviour.

Minister of Education, Dr Ismail Shafeeu has inaugurated the 'Cool School' project to install air conditioners in all public schools during a ceremony held at Kaafu atoll Maafushi, located 27 km south of the capital city of Male'.

Speaking at the ceremony held in Maafushi School, the Minister stated that this project launched to install ACs within all school in the country is not simply a project that ends with a cooler environment.

"A cool school will bring solace to the heart. With solace, the school and actions of students will see positive changes. Students will be led away from bad behavior. The hearts will be happy," said the Minister.

"There will be no bullying. An environment such as this will have no room for anger. The result of the work undertaken in collaboration by teachers, school management and parents must be for the school to become an environment that is honed with the education and upbringing necessary to nurture successful humans as well as [provide] lessons and teachings that will brighten the entire lives of children, the island, and the nation."

He revealed that the state's expenditure will rise by 38 percent with the installation of these air conditioners and had further assured that 20 percent of the project will be approached through renewable energy.

The Minister had stated that this work will proceed in a cost-effective manner with the assistance of both the government and civilians by identifying the schools that can be equipped with solar panels.

The installation of ACs across all public schools in the country was an initiative proposed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu following his recent tour across all atolls of the country. Minister Shafeeu had previously ensured the completion of this project in two years.
