Police have started investigation into the circulation of a forged investigation report claiming that an invalid court order had been issued to arrest former President Abdulla Yameen.

In a statement released yesterday, Police stated that the document being circulated on social media claiming that it is the 2016 investigation report by Police regarding the arrest of Yameen is a forged document.

The document has been circulated on social media and shown at rallies of Yameen's People's National Front (PNF) party, using it to raise accusations against senior officials of this government.

The statement released by Police stated that the header in the document does not match headers used in legitimate police documents.

In addition to this, the signature on the report claiming to be of then Acting Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz is also wrong, and instead appears to be a forged signature similar to Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Shifan's signature.

Police said that they are investigating this case of forgery of official Police documents as a serious matter.

In addition to this, the Anti Corruption Commission has also submitted a case where forged documents in their name are being circulated, Police said.

Both cases are being investigated by Police at present, who appealed to the public to refrain from engaging in such actions.
