The Anti Corruption Commission has ordered the Police Welfare Company (PolCo) to temporarily halt the issuance of commercial units in the apartment complex the company has built in Hulhumale'.

The ACC said today that this directive was issued in relation to a case they are currently investigating involving the lease of commercial units in these buildings.

The ACC has so far not provided any additional details about this investigation.

According to Mihaaru, the halt was ordered due to a case submitted to ACC alleging that the units are being given on lease in a manner that directly benefits specific individuals.

Construction of the Police flats in Hulhumale' began in 2014 and is called the "Blue Housing Scheme". While the initial plan was to complete construction in two years, the project is nearing completion after an actual period of nine years. The 361 police officers who will be granted these apartments were announced in 2013, and some have since paid the downpayment.

The project is currently undertaken by Amin Construction. The government's latest estimate is that all work on these apartments will be completed by the end of the year.
