A Maldivian flight that took off to Trivandrum, India from Velana International Airport (VIA) has turned around and landed back at VIA due to engine troubles.

In a post on social media X, Maldivian announced that this afternoon's flight to Trivandrum has been cancelled due to technical issues.

The flight was cancelled after it returned to VIA a little while after taking off.

Maldivian parent company Island Aviation's Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas told Mihaaru that the Airbus flight had had to return to Male' a short duration into the trip due to facing engine troubles.

However, he dismissed rumours that the engine had caught fire, and assured that no such complications had occurred.
