Maldives Police Service has stated that the Police Academy or the National College of Police and Law Enforcement will not be maintained by India.
India is accused of establishing and maintaining a military base in Addu city to strengthen India's influence in the Maldives.
Police Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Yoonus Sobah told Mihaare News that the Maldivian police have the authority to do everything related to the college including maintenance.
"Everything will be handled by the Maldivian police. But there will be a defects liability period that the contractor needs to oversee," Younus said.
These thing will be maintained by Sri Awanthika Contractors Limited of India for a period of one year. The company commenced work on the Police Academy in 2017.
The resources in the Police Academy include a classroom for 320 people with quality accommodation blocks, a 400-meter track, an auditorium of 340 people, a gym with a capacity of 800 people, a football stadium, a basketball court, a tennis court, PT ground, helipad and training center.
Police and Home Ministry have stated that there is no Indian influence on the academy as per the agreement. It is not a military facility and will be used for training by the police and other enforcement agencies in the Maldives, said the police.
