Two men arrested in connection with the attack on three policemen in Henveiru district on September 9 have been remanded in custody pending trial.

Three Drug Enforcement Department (DED) officers were attacked while off duty near the Euro Store on Majeedhi magu in Henveiru district.

Police said an 18 year old man and a 20 year old man were arrested in connection with the incident. Police charge the two men with organized crime, using sharp and dangerous weapons.

The two were taken to the Criminal Court yesterday for an extension of their remand and the court ordered them to remain in custody till the end of the trial.

No further arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed in a tweet said that the police were attacked by a well known gang in the city and no one involved would be released. The Commissioner said the police would not bow to gangs.

The police and Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) have been criticized for failing to curb gang activities in the city despite a joint operation.
