Police officers given Interpol criminal database access

Maldives Police Service, on Sunday, revealed that officers across Maldives were given access to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol)’s criminal database.

According to authorities, Maldives Police Service’s information management system is now connected to Interpol’s real-time criminal databases, meaning officers across the island nation can now access Interpol’s data.

This connection will enable frontline officers to gather information about criminals on Interpol radar and act accordingly towards them.

Additionally, police state that this would also ease sharing information between various countries about fugitives fleeing abroad to avoid prosecution.

As per police, this move will help ensure the safety of the country, particularly from terrorism, at a time when number of foreign workers are high and local tourism is on the rise.

Interpol is an international organization that facilitates worldwide police cooperation in 192 member countries to fight international crime.
