Despite a history of political leaders mistreating their allies for personal gain, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the leader of the People's National Congress (PNC), has said that the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and PNC coalition's candidate, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, will not mistreat PPM leader Abdulla Yameen.
During a campaign rally in Dhaalu atoll Kudahuvadhoo, Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that if elected, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's first order of business would be to release Abdulla Yameen, who is currently serving an 11-year prison sentence following his conviction of money laundering and graft charges in the Vaavu atoll Aarah lease case.
Abdul Raheem Abdulla further said that under Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's presidency, the government's actions and decisions would be guided by the insight and instructions of Abdulla Yameen. He also asserted that their political opponents were spreading unfounded rumors in an attempt to create discord between Dr. Muizzu and Yameen.
“Nasheed, please don’t attempt to create rifts by suggesting that Dr. Muizzu will treat Yameen the same way Ibu treated you, [Muizzu] won’t. I guarantee it.” Abdul Raheem said and added that Dr. Muizzu will prove his loyalty to the former president.
The PPM/PNC candidate, along with his campaign team, commenced their campaign visits to Meemu, Faafu, Dhaalu, and Vaavu atolls on Wednesday, August 16, with their first stop being Dhaalu atoll Kudahuvadhoo. They visited Dhaalu atoll Maaemboodhoo, Hulhudheli, and Meedhoo, as well as Faafu atoll Nilandhoo on Thursday, August 17.
