MET has predicted rainfall in islands in the middle and south of the country on Eid. The country will experience bouts of rain after a long period of unusual heat today and tomorrow. However, MET predicts the weather to improve in the north.
Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has declared that the weather is expected to worsen on the upcoming day of Eid-Al-Fitr, Wednesday.
After an unusual heat that befell the entire nation during this holy month of Ramadan, the region of Male' has been experiencing very heavy rainfall since last night, which has caused flooding in the roads of Male' City.
Addressing this, an official from the MET office shared with Mihaaru News that this current downpour is the cause of the two seasons - Hulhangu (Southwest monsoon) and Iruvai (Northeast monsoon) clashing. He had forecasted that islands in the middle of the country will experience rainfall today and tonight and also predicted rainfall in multiple regions of the country tomorrow as well.
While the entire nation is preparing to celebrate Eid this Wednesday, the official stated that rainfall is predicted within islands in the north as well as the middle of the country on this day.
MET further speculates the weather to improve within the northern islands in the country.
Moreover, white alert has been declared in islands between Raa atoll and Laamu atoll with heavy rainfall and thunder also predicted.
Statistics released by MET office further indicates that the island that observed the heaviest downpour within the last 24 hours to be Kaaf atoll Gaafaru. While Gaafaru had experience 52.9 millimeters of rain, Gaaf Dhaal atoll Kaadehdhoo had observed 49 millimeters of rain.
