The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has forecasted bad weather conditions across the country for the next 24 hours, including heavy rain and thunderstorms.
An official from the Met Office said that rain is expected today and tomorrow, with strong winds across all regions of Maldives.
"Rain and winds are expected to subside tomorrow evening. Following clear weather on Wednesday, rain is expected to resume on Thursday and Friday," the official said.
He said that the current weather experienced in the Maldives is due to the western monsoon.
The current wind speed range from 5 to 20 miles per hour, and it is expected to gust up to 40 miles per hour during showers. Seas are expected to be rough, particularly in the central region of the Maldives.
The MET Office has issued a white alert from 1:30 p.m. this afternoon to 6:00 p.m. tonight for the region between Alif Alif atoll and Dhaalu atoll.
According to records from the Met Office, the highest amount of rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded in Alif Alif Atoll Thoddoo, totaling 54.5 millimeters.
