The government has decided to build a hospital specializing in the healthcare of women and children in Hulhumale', Phase 2. The hospital will be established within this tenure and is currently in the planning phase.
A large hospital dedicated to women and children will be built in Hulhumale.
Speaking to Mihaaru News, Media Director at the Health Ministry, Shaufa Hussain stated that a wide land of 46,000 acres has been allocated from Phase 2 of Hulhumale' City to build the hospital. She revealed that proposals have also been received for the hospital and that a design is being devised to fit the conditions of the most suitable proposal option selected.
This hospital, which will be divided into two target groups will provide the finest services tailored for women and children. In vitro fertilization (IVF) and Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) are also included within these services. Additional services offered by the hospital include:
- Women and pregnant women: Family planning, healthcare for pregnant women, childbirth services, performing surgeries specialized for women
- Babies: Intensive care for babies, surgeries for babies, development assessments
- Toddlers: consulting pediatricians, administering vaccines and monitoring growth, managing illnesses contracted during childhood
- Women's health and wellbeing: Screenings for breast and cervical cancer, reproductive health services, managing menopause
Although a date for commencing operations at the hospital remains undetermined so far, the Ministry of Health assured that the hospital will be built during this administration.
The government also plans on establishing a hospital dedicated to the care of Thalassemia patients in addition to general healthcare services. The Health Ministry has also declared that a dedicated hospital for cancer treatments will also be constructed in the area adjacent to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male' City.
