Government revises period granted for resort re-development

Government has today brought changes to the period granted for re-development of resorts.

As per the existing guidelines, the maximum allowed period that can be granted for resort redevelopment is two years. A one year extension could be granted on request.

The changes brought today now state that the maximum period that can be generally granted for resort development is capped at three years. However, if the entire place is being demolished and rebuilt, then a period between three to six years can be granted.

The amendment further states that if the resort is not made operational within the given time, the Ministry of Tourism has the authority to grant a further extension if the developer submits a statement stating that the workers and necessary equipment are on location.

If the ministry finds the statement to be false upon inspection, then they reserve the right to terminate the permit, the amendment states.

In addition to this, if the entire resort is being closed for redevelopment, the ministry holds the right to offer a rent abatement of the resort for the redevelopment period. The rent will be back in effect at the end of the granted redevelopment period.
