Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef has stated that Maldivian citizens will not bring a ‘moronic’ administration that would abolish Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) to power.

The defence minister made the statement in a Facebook status in response to former attorney general, Husnu Al Suood, further highlighting MNDF as the ‘iron shield’ to the country.

The former attorney general had tweeted stating that in an administration of the current opposition, the Maldivian Coast Guard and Marine Police will be in place of MNDF.

He stated that MVR7 million is accounted to the security forces daily. He noted that such an amount cannot be justified for security forces in such a small country where people in atolls have no adequate healthcare and clean water.
