Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu said today that priority should be given to become responsible students who love religion, obey their parents, and respect their teachers.

Speaking on the occasion of the beginning of the 2024 academic year, which commenced today after a month long break, the Minister emphasized that building a generation of educated and skilled individuals is realized through the collective efforts of all.

He said that the most important thing to achieve this is to strengthen the relationship between schools and parents.

"As we face a new academic year, first priority should be to become responsible students who love Islam, obey parents, respect teachers and those around you, and learn with enthusiasm," he said.

The Minister said that learning and teaching can be carried out in the most desirable manner if the school environment is positive and assist learning.

"The government will give special priority to resolve barriers faced by students and create a happy and positive environment in schools," he said.

The Minister added that a permanent solution would be brought to the difficulties faced by students and teachers due to classrooms being too hot. In line with that promise, a major project to air-condition schools will be launched soon, he said.

Minister Shafeeu said that multiple efforts have been planned to strengthen the administration of the Maldives' formal education system. Some of these efforts have already been implemented, and preparations are underway to implement the rest, he said.

The Minister urged all students to make the best use of the "golden opportunity" to learn with the new year.
