President Solih departs to Sri Lanka for Independence Day festivities

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih departed to Sri Lanka on Sunday to take part in the celebration of Sri Lanka's 71st Independence Day.

Sri Lanka's Independence Day is February 4, Monday.

President Solih was invited by Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena to attend the festivities as the Chief Guest of the ceremony.

Additionally, President Solih is set to hold discussions with the Sri Lankan government on ways to further strengthen the existing diplomatic relations between both the countries.

Furthermore, the President will meet Maldivians residing in Lanka on Sunday evening.

Although President Solih visited Sri Lanka recently on a personal trip, this marks his first official visit after assuming office on November 17, 2018.

President Solih will return to Maldives on February 5.
