Bank of Maldives (BML), on Tuesday, donated 65 motorised wheelchairs to support individuals with mobility impairments.

"We are very pleased to be able to make a difference to people’s lives with these special motorised wheelchairs", stated BML CEO and Managing Director Tim Sawyer.

"Our target is to reach as many individuals as possible to provide them with greater freedom as they go about their everyday lives."

Further, Sawyer added, "I would like to express my sincere thanks to our staff for their commitment in delivering the wheelchairs during these challenging times".

BML first launched its motorised wheelchair donation programme in 2017, aiming to provide motorised wheelchairs to every individual with a mobility impairment in the country, after determining whether the person can independently operate the equipment.

Overall, BML's target is to donate 65 motorised wheelchairs across 39 islands by end of 2020.

Following the donation, the bank estimates that it will have helped enhance the quality of life for over 140 people living with physical disabilities across the island nation.
