Police requested from the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) for a court order to arrest Parliament representative for the Kendhikulhudhoo constituency Ahmed Easa on domestic violence accusations.

The request for a court order has been sent to the criminal court on Thursday.

MP Easa allegedly physically abused his wife Asra Naseem.

However, unless the Police witnesses an MP committing a crime, they can be arrested only with a court order. PGO have to request for the order.

The domestic abuse case was lodged with the police very recently. Asra had given her statement to the police on Wednesday regarding this case.

According to a neighbor of Easa and Asra, they heard the abuse inflicted on her. They also stated that, Easa and Asra’s child was in the apartment they share at that time. Asra had later on received medical treatment for the injuries she sustained from these attacks.

Never thought I would have to go through something like this: Asra

Asra Naseem, wife of MP Easa has said the past 24 hours of her life had been difficult, and she had to experience something she thought she never would, in a Facebook post made earlier on Thursday.

This was the first time Asra Naseem has spoken out about the domestic abuse she had received at the hand of her husband. She had said that her son and her were doing well.

"With Almighty Allah's blessing, my son and I are now well. I thank my friends and other well wishers that has helped me in this difficult time in our life from the bottom of my heart," Asra said in a post she made in Dhivehi on Facebook.
