President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with his cabinet ministers and expressed gratitude for their support over the last five years.

The outgoing president held a meeting with his cabinet at the President's Office on Sunday, October 1. At the meeting, president Solih expressed his gratitude to his cabinet for their commitment and support during his term.

He also said that the current administration had achieved majority of the pledges on the manifesto, and emphasized that his top priority will be to attend to the remaining manifesto components during the current transitional period.

The ministers highlighted president Solih's exemplary leadership amid the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war that followed.

In the runoff election held on Saturday, September 30, president Solih secured 109,868 votes (46 percent), while his opponent, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) coalition candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, confirmed his place as the next Maldivian president with 129,159 votes (54 percent).

President Solih began the state's transition according to the law on Sunday for which he has formed a special committee.
