The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has received enough signatures to submit and pass the no-confidence motion on former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed.

The Parliamentary Group of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to submit a no-confidence motion against Speaker Nasheed to the parliament. The motion received a majority vote from 36 out of the 41 members who attended the meeting.

The Deputy Leader of the Parliamentary Group and Addu Meedhoo MP Rozaina Tweeted that the number of signatories on the no-confidence motion had increased to 44.

The motion had later received the endorsement of Dhaalu atoll Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam (Sun Siyam) in addition to other parliamentarians. According to sources, the MDP's PG had decided to submit the motion to the parliament with over 50 endorsements.

Speaking at a press conference held by MDP's Parliamentary Group on Tuesday, PG Leader Mohamed Aslam said that the no-confidence motion on Speaker Nasheed will be submitted once they have obtained the signatures of the majority of the parliament, which is 44 members.

However, Aslam said that they would collect over 50 signatures for the no-confidence motion.

While the no-confidence motion against Speaker Nasheed is set to be submitted to the parliament, the no-confidence motion and privilege motion submitted against Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath have been stalled in the parliamentary proceedings.
