The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People's National Congress (PNC) have started working with other political parties to find a solution to the issue of maritime territory in the interest of the Maldives, and not due to the upcoming presidential elections, according to the parties.

Members of all political parties in the Maldives participated in a press conference for the first time since the current administration began, announcing that they are working together. The conference included members from the Jumhooree Party (JP), Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) supporters of former President Mohamed Nasheed, as well as the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People's National Congress (PNC).

When asked by Mihaaru News if the alliance between the parties would last until the presidential elections, given that they are all running with their own candidates, Minority Leader and Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem (Redwave Saleem) said that they were currently working together for the benefit of the nation.

"The presidential election is something else entirely. We will know when we reach there. Right now we are working to protect the nation's interests," Saleem said.

PNC Vice-President and Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef Umar said that the issue of losing a part of the ocean territory is a serious matter and hence this coalition was formed to work together on this issue.

"I am not at this podium to talk about political matters. However I want to say that you will see Ibrahim Mohamed Solih becoming isolated," he said.

The opposition has moved a no-confidence motion against Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath in parliament on Thursday. They also plan to file similar motions against President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid in the near future.
