Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has said that the previous government spent MVR 45 million on the construction of the power house in Haa Dhaalu Atoll Kulhudhuhfushi, but despite all this expense, the structure remains no more than just four walls.
Responding to questions posed by MPs in today's Parliament sitting, Thoriq said that the construction of the Kulhudhuhfushi power house was first contracted for MVR 15 million. However, the work remained incomplete, and Fenaka Corporation took over the work and spent an additional MVR 30 million on it.
"The work went on and all they have completed is four walls. By the time it reached this point, expenses have gone up to MVR 45 million. There's double the work yet to be done," he said.
Thoriq stated that the Government has now studied how much more will need to be spent on the project, and is continuing work.
The Minister further said that three generators have been taken to Kulhudhuhfushi in a bid to guarantee uninterrupted electricity services.
