Application window open for requesting Umrah permits

The window to submit requests for obtaining a permit to issue Umrah bookings for Maldivians has been opened from May 12 to May 16.

Window for submitting proposals requesting permits for parties interested in providing Umrah trips for Maldivian citizens has been opened.

An announcement by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs stated that the window for the Umrah proposal submissions will be extended from Sunday next week (May 12) to the 16th.

The announcement further explained that the the companies eligible for providing Umrah trips for Maldivian civilians must complete the requirements stipulated in the new policy adopted by the Islamic Ministry for Umrah pilgrimage last year.

The Ministry further stated that the proposal book required for submitting requests to obtain permits to issue Umrah trips can be accessed through the Ministry's website.

While eligible companies from the submitted applications are set to be presented a permit for a duration of 2 years, a ban has been enforced over acquirement of advanced payments from pilgrims without an official permit for offering booking of such trips.

While the issue of unpermitted parties attempting to book Umrah trips are faced each year, a number of companies had undertaken such conduct this year as well with many problem arising as a result.

The Ministry extends the window for requesting permits to accept Umrah bookings at different intervals throughout the year. The opportunity was offered to interested parties twice last year.
