President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the first and second rounds of applications for land and flats under the current government's housing schemes, 'Binveriyaa' and 'Gedhoruveriyaa,' will not be rejected.

Dr. Muizzu, set to be sworn in as president on November 17, emphasized the significance of housing policies in his government, assuring the residents of Hulhumalé that ongoing housing projects will not be halted.

Dr. Muizzu's statement came a day after the transitional spokesperson for the interim office mentioned that he had pledged not to take possession of the flats and land plots from projects initiated by the current administration before the presidential election. The spokesperson further stated that no decision had been made yet regarding the implementation of the schemes announced before the second round of elections.

Dr. Muizzu affirmed his commitment not to revoke any initiatives that have given hope to the people through housing projects. He emphasized his intention to assess the situation in a manner that would benefit a larger number of individuals.

"We will ensure that all applications filed do not have to be resubmitted. However, in a manner to maximize benefits for the majority, we will initiate the land acquisition process by deploying dredgers within the first two to three months," Dr. Muizzu stated.

"For example, if the processing is completed before the end of this term, and the final list is released and [the project] reaches a point of certainty, we will maintain it," Dr. Muizzu said.

With the current administration's term ending on November 17, the government has yet to clarify the details regarding the 40,000 applicants in the second round and whether they will proceed with handing over the necessary documents.

Approximately 20,000 applicants had applied for flats and land in the first round of the 'Binveriyaa' and 'Gedhoruveriyaa' schemes. However, only 18,955 of them were included in the permanent list of individuals who met the eligibility criteria.

Out of the 20,000 applicants, the government has decided to allocate flats to all those who meet the eligibility criteria. However, the exact number of individuals eligible for the scheme has not been announced.
