Govt publicises list of banned single-use plastics, packaging

The government, on Wednesday, revealed a temporary list of banned single-use plastics, as mandated by Section 7 of the 18th amendment brought to Maldives’ Export-Import Act (No. 31/79), which was ratified by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih the previous Wednesday, December 23.

The government, on Wednesday, revealed a temporary list of banned single-use plastics, as mandated by Section 7 of the 18th amendment brought to Maldives’ Export-Import Act (No. 31/79), which was ratified by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih the previous Wednesday, December 23.

According to the circular (8/2020), the ban comes into effect on June 1, 2021, and will apply to all products classified under the following 12 categories:
