Top opposition officials met the resident coordinator of the United Nations to the Maldives, Shoko Noda, to share concerns regarding the government's attempts to hinder the reform movement of the opposition.

The top officials include leader of Jumhoory Party (JP) Qasim Ibrahim, main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Parliamentary Group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s lawmaker son Faris Maumoon, deputy leader of Adhaalath Party Ali Zahir and deputy leader of JP Abdulla Riyaz.

Speaking to Mihaaru, Riyaz said, "It had to be brought to the attention of the UN coordinator as the government is not allowing the opposition to conduct political activities.”

Riyaz said that the discussion also shed light on the all-party talks. He stated that the all-party talks would only be carried out if the representatives appointed by the leaders of the joint four-party opposition coalition can take part, and if the government has good intention towards the discussion.

In the meantime, top opposition leaders has also met the Indian High commissioner to the Maldives Akhilesh Mishra to share concerns of the ongoing political turmoil of the country.
