Three people prosecuted for their alleged involvement in the May 6 assassination attempt of former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed have denied charges on Wednesday.

Nasheed received life threatening injuries from an IED attached to a motorcycle near his residence. The state has so far pressed charges against seven people for their involvement in this case; Ahmed Rasheed , Thahumeen Ahmed, Ali Haisham, Fahumee Ali, Ishaag ,Mujaz Ahmed fand Mohamed Naazim.

Mujaz and Thahumeen had previously denied to the charges.

Ishaag is being accused of transporting explosives, and planning a terrorist act, and participating in a terrorist act as well. Nazim is accused of participating in a terrorist activity. Fahumy and Haisham are being accused of planning a terrorist activity,

However, Fahumy and Haisham and Nazim all denied the charges being pressed against them.

The state said they have sufficient documentary evidences and witnesses they will submit for this case if they denied their charges. The did not give further details though.

Ishaq had requested for more time to study the evidence submitted against them so that they can prepare their defence better. As the rest of the accused had made the same request, the court allowed for it.

The detention of the accused was then decided on in the trial.

Adhuham, accused of participating and carrying out the terrorist attack, has pleaded guilty for the charges pressed against him. His case is therefore conducted separately, and for the sake of national security, in secrecy as well.
