United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Tuesday, placed Maldives on its 'Green List', meaning that people travelling from Maldives to the country's capital Abu Dhabi is not required to undergo a quarantine period.
With this development, individuals travelling to Abu Dhabi will only be subject to the PCR test.
In addition to Maldives, UAE added Australia, Singapore and Greenland to the list as well. Kuwait, Macau, and some other countries were removed from the list, which is updated daily.
UAE updates the list of countries based on their spread of COVID-19, and the preventive measures set in place to curb the spread of the virus.
During last December, many countries did away with the mandatory quarantine required for travellers from Maldives, due to the number of daily COVID-19 cases decreasing drastically.
However, cases have been spiking since January, and the country is now recording over 100 new virus cases per day.
Currently, Maldives records a total of 15,247 virus cases of which 1,280 are active cases, in addition to 13,916 recoveries and 51 deaths.
