Malé City Council has opened for submission of complaints regarding the parking spaces allocated for four-wheeled vehicles.

The council said in an announcement that individuals who have not made any further communication after receiving the parking slot, not signed the agreement and those who have additional complaints should submit them through the complaints portal before February 5.

During his tenure as Malé City Mayor, the incumbent President, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, allocated parking slots on a rental basis in Malé. However, there were numerous complaints raised regarding the way it was implemented.

A city council spokesperson said that there have been numerous complaints about the parking slots. Some individuals who received slots have not paid the fees, some have not made further communications, and some slots have been allocated in violation of the regulations, he said.

As a result, the council has decided to review the allocation of parking slots.

Following information submitted by Mihaaru News under the Right to Information Act, the City Council said in August that 776 parking slots had been allocated to diplomatic missions, businesses, senior government officials, and the public until May last year.

These include 713 slots for private vehicles and taxis, and 63 slots for diplomatic missions, businesses, and government officials.

The rent for parking spaces ranges from MVR 750 to MVR 3,000.
