Former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has stated that he has not done anything to warrant accusations against him within the Road Development Corporation (RDC) corruption case.

Fayyaz, who also serves as Chairman of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has been summoned to be present at the Police Headquarters at 15:00 hrs today to be questioned in the investigation into the allegations of corruption being raised against some staff of the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
The chit he received from Police state that he is being summoned for questioning as he is being accused of having financially benefitted from the illicit transactions conducted through RDC.
In a post on social media X, Fayyaz alleged that the entire corruption case against RDC is baseless. He also asserted that he can confirm with absolute certainty that he has done no actions upon which accusations can be levied against him.
"The series of baseless political accusations has begun," Fayyaz's post read, adding that even if the case was politically motivated, he would extend his cooperation. He went on to call on the government to refrain from using national institutions in political campaigning efforts.
In a press conference held on the matter on March 3, Police's Economic Crime Department stated that technical work was commenced as soon as the matter was first reported in September 2022. At the time, they said that although there were suspicions of involvement of a large number of government employees in the acts of corruption, involvement of three individuals had been confirmed to date.
