The forecast reported today which predicted weather patterns over several regions in the world stated that Male' is expected to encounter rougher bouts of rain equivalent to a month's worth in the 72 hours ahead.
The country's weather agency, Maldives Meteorological Services (MET) also predicted last week, particularly bad weather across the island nation this week.
Statistics disclosed by MET reveal that Male' had observed 30.8 mm of rain over the past 24 hours while Hulhule' experienced 59.4 mm and Hulhumale, 31.5 mm.
MET Office had further forecasted last May that certain regions in the country will observe extreme rainfall amid the rainy season or south-west monsoon (Hulhangu Moosun) this year. A press statement published by the institution at the time revealed that northern and central Maldives are expected to encounter relatively rougher downpours compared to the typical amount during the months of July, August and September. They also predicted the south to observe less rainfall compared to previous monsoons during this period.
The Office also released a yellow alert this morning until 09:00 hrs for all regions in the country besides the two southernmost atolls.
Extreme rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms are expected during the time, said MET, elaborating that gusts are expected to intensify at 40 to 45 miles per hour with rough seas expected.
Both the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Police Services have also cautioned to employ precautionary measures this week as stormy days are predicted ahead.
