Bank of Maldives (BML) on Wednesday, launched the 'Fethun Tharin' programme as an initiative to teach basic life skills to those with disabilities.

The programme, held in collaboration with Swimming Association of Maldives, Special Olympics Maldives and Maldives Paralympic Committee, is specialised for disabled individuals who lack swimming skills.

With a total of 30 participants, the programme kick-started in capital Male' and reclaimed suburb Hullhumale'.

"It is a great pleasure to see disabled kids get the same opportunities [as abled kids] and learn a new skill. Along with this, we would like to note the overwhelming support generated by the 'Fethun Tharin' programme", BML's Deputy CEO Mohamed Shareef said.

"Our hope is that this programme will continue with the help of experienced coaches from the Swimming Association in addition to the clubs and many learn how to swim under the programme and increasing the interest for swimming", he added.

BML is collaborating with various relevant organisations to provide opportunities and empower disabled people including providing financial aid and providing items required by those with disabilities.
