Tax Commissioner to resign for parliamentary run

Commissioner General of Taxation, Fathuhulla Jameel, has decided to resign from his position to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections on the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket for the Thaa atoll Thimarafushi constituency.

Commissioner General of Taxation, Fathuhulla Jameel, has decided to resign from his position in order to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections. He will be running on the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) ticket for the Thaa atoll Thimarafushi constituency.

Fathuhulla reportedly met with senior officials of the agency last week to inform them of his decision to resign. According to sources, he is expected to resign from his position soon.

Fathuhulla, who has had a long-standing career at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), was approved by the parliament on October 28, 2019, for the position of Tax Commissioner. Prior to his role as Tax Commissioner, he served as the Director General of MIRA.

Fathuhulla began his career at MIRA in 2003 as a Revenue Officer. Over the years, he has held positions such as as Senior Revenue Officer before being appointed as Director General in 2010.

After leaving MIRA, Fathuhulla took on the role of Manager of Taxes, Risk, and Compliances at Dhiraagu in 2016 until his appointment as Commissioner General of Taxation.
