President Solih attends Sri Lanka's Independence Day celebrations

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday attended Sri Lanka's 71st Independence Day celebrations in Colombo as Chief Guest.

The President was joined by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and several other government officials.

This marks the first time a Maldivian president was chief guest at independence day celebrations in Sri Lanka.

President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa attended the celebrations as well.

The event saw traditional performances, military displays and much more.

Sri Lanka gained independence from the British on February 4, 1948.
