Indian High Commission in Maldives has started to promote various tourism products of Maldives in India.

They have held a series of round-table discussions on Wednesday to discuss this matter further. Tour operators, travel agents, travel writers, and high level officials from Outbound Travel Market (OTM) Mumbai participated in these discussions. Stake holders from the Maldivian tourism industry also attended this event.

Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and Indian High Commissioner Sujay Sudhir were present for the opening ceremony for the discussions. Additionally Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) also attended the opening ceremony.

These discussions were carried out under four categories; luxury and niche tourism, mice tourism, guesthouse tourism, and film production. The Indian delegation will be taking trips to several islands after these discussions.

Indian High Commission believes these trips will improve the tourism aspect of the relationship between Maldives and India. This will also increase the number of tourist arrivals to Maldives from India according to the commission.

India is one of the most important markets to Maldives. Over 200,000 tourists have arrived to Maldives from India this year.

Maldives was the first nation India established a "travel bubble" with after the nation closed its borders after the Covid-19 pandemic.
