Health Protection Agency (HPA) on late Saturday revealed the 158th COVID-19 related fatality in Maldives.
As per the agency, the victim was a 77-year-old Maldivian male. He was brought to Baa Atoll Hospital and was declared dead at 1800hrs.
The ongoing surge of cases has drastically increased the death rate, with 85 people passing away in May so far. This makes up over 50 percent of fatalities in Maldives.
The country recorded its first COVID related death on April 29, 2020.
Authorities have tightened measure to curb the spread. This includes increased duration and extended curfew in addition to travel restrictions.
