COVID-19: Restrictive measures extended by HPA

The restrictive measures implemented by Health Protection Agency (HPA) earlier in May has been extended till May 28.

In a gazetted announcement, HPA said that the restrictions placed on May 3 have been extended for an additional two weeks to all of Maldives. This announcement was signed by the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru.

The restrictive measures include temporarily halting the travel eases given to the people that have gotten two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Parks, sports activities and tracks have also been closed in the Greater Male' Area. Travel between islands unless for an essential purpose was also restricted then.

Maldivians and work permit holders arriving from India have to quarantine for 14 days now. Travelling to industrial islands have been restricted unless for an essential reason. Travelling from industrial islands to inhabited islands also are prohibited, and if they do, a 10 day quarantine is compulsory.

However, the curfew announced in Greater Male' Area on May 12 was not extended. It was announced for a seven day period, meant to end on May 18.
