President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Tuesday announced a new national-level award to be given in recognition of individuals who serve the country for 35 or more years.
The Presidents Office revealed that President Solih spoke on the matter during today's cabinet meeting, and said that the award will be conferred starting this year's Independence Day.
He noted that currently there are many who had, and continue to serve the nation for years on end.
As per the president, those individuals and their services should be publicly recognised and celebrated at a national level.
He further stated that the award presented will be equivalent to a National Award of Honour, reliant upon the criteria set by the National Awards Committee.
The criteria will be shared at a later date with ministries and other government institutions for their comments.
