Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) candidate for the constituency of Mahibadhoo in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Ali Ahmed, withdrew his name for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections.

With this development, there are four candidates competing for the constituency, including its current lawmaker and member of opposition Progressive Party of Maldives’ (PPM) Ahmed Thoriq, Adhaalath Party member Ali Azim, and two independent candidates. Ahmed Sunil and Ahmed Hussain.

Adhaalath Party and MDP previously agreed that the constituency of Mahibadhoo would be among six seats that MDP will concede in the April 6 Parliamentary Elections.

In addition, MDP agreed not to compete for the constituencies of Vaikaradhoo, Makunudhoo, Kaashidhoo, Milandhoo and South Fuvahmulah. However, MDP has only withdrawn the candidacy for the constituency of Mahibadhoo.
