City Council launches Buggy service in Vilimalé

Malé City Council on Monday night officially launched the buggy service in Vilimalé.

The city council brought in 10 buggies to provide the services in the island. These include two buggies that can carry various goods, luggage and boxes and one buggy that can transport patients during emergencies.

The buggy service was launched at a special ceremony held in Vilimalé.

During the ceremony, Malé City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that the buggy service will be successful with the residents cooperation with the council.

"We would like to ask you to give us all your thoughts and opinions to make this service well rounded according to your liking. Then we will proceed in the most appropriate manner," Dr. Muizzu said.

The Mayor said he is also working to hire a paramedic to further improve the service of the buggy ambulance.

Free travel in the buggy will be available until the end of Ramadan, except for private hires. While the buggy rides in Villimalé will cost MVR 2, the fee will differ for private hires. The fees are;

- MVR 6 for a 4-seat buggy

- MVR 10 for a 6-seat buggy

- MVR 15 for a 12-seat buggy

The council said children under the age of six, people over the age of 65, disabled people registered with National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) and children in school uniform will be able to ride the buggy free of charge.

While the city council launched the buggy service in Vilimalé last night, MTCC launched the electric bus service in the island in January. Currently, MTCC charges MVR 5 as bus fare in Vilimalé.
