Local man Faisal, 39, passed away while saving a drowning tourist.
A local man identified as Faisal (not full name), 39 passed away today while saving a drowning tourist at Centara Grand Island Maldives resort located in Alifu Dhaalu atoll in north Maldives.
Maldives Police Service confirmed that the incident was reported at approximately 11:00 hrs this morning, and detailed that Faisal, who is originally from Hithadhoo, Addu City was deceased when he was brought to the health center in neighbouring island Dhan’gethi.
However, the tourist is doing well, said police.
Maldives is currently experiencing the southwest monsoon ‘Hulhan’gu’ which brings in rough weather. Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued Orange Warnings across different regions and sea travel is discouraged unless absolutely necessary at this time.
Picnics at uninhabited islands and sandbanks are also discouraged until the weather clears up.
