Health Minister Abdulla Khaleel today said that the apartment he purchased from Hulhumalé was funded via a loan he took out five years ago.

The apartment, which is located in Hulhumalé FW Residence, is worth MVR 3.1 million.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) submitted a case with the Civil Court of Maldives on October 7 to transfer the deed of the apartment over to Khaleel. The court ordered that the 1,235 square feet apartment is now registered to Khaleel, given that the cost of the apartment has been settled.

Following the news published in the media, the minister clarified in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that he signed the purchase agreement for the apartment in August 2018. He stated that the additional financing required to purchase the flat was sourced through an Islamic facility from Bank of Maldives (BML).

He also added that MVR 1.4 million is still owed for the apartment.

Minister Khaleel previously served as the MP for the Nilandhoo constituency and also ran private businesses before being appointed as a cabinet minister in the current government.
