Dhiraagu is providing free internet connection to 'Fiyavathi', the state-run children's orphanage in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale', and established online education classes in four of its classrooms.
In a statement released Tuesday, Dhiraagu noted that prior to this development, the telecom giant has been providing internet connection free of charge to the computer laboratory at Fiyavathi, under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
Presently there are 99 children from Fiyavathi participating in online classes from Grade 7 to Foundation level.
Highlighting the need for students' access to digital school programmes amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Dhiraagu stated that its expanded connectivity in Fiyavathi will allow the children to take part in online activities organised by the orphanage as well.
Zeena Qasim, the CEO of Fiyavathi, conveyed gratitude to Dhiraagu on behalf of the children and management, for the company's generous assistance.
The telecommunications company has extended support and aid to the state orphanages in various capacities.
